Southampton have announced that their Moroccan winger Sofiane Boufal will spend the 18/19 season on loan to Spanish First Division club Celta Vigo.
Rumours circled Boufal’s future after falling out of manager Mark Hughes’ favour at the tail-end of last season, with many sources linking the French-born Moroccan international with a move back to France and Nice.
However, he has left for Spain, two years after arriving from Lille. During his spell with the Saints he scored four goals in 59 games, one of which was voted Premier League goal of the Season 17/18.
The club’s only comment was that “We wish Sofiane good luck for the season ahead.”
Boufal has made five appearances for Morocco since his debut in 2016, but was not included in the Preliminary Squad for the World Cup this summer, not the final 23.
