March International: First Egypt call-up for El-Shahat

Al-Ain attacking starlet Hussein El-Shahat has been included in an Egypt squad for the first time.

The Attacking Midfielder, on loan in the UAE from Egyptian side Misr Lel Makkasa, has made a flying start at his new club, notching six goals and seven assists in his first eight games.

The Pharaohs play European champions Portugal in Switzerland on March 23rd, before facing off against Greece on the 27th.

Egypt manager Héctor Cúper has picked a thread-bare squad, with the entirety of the current 17-man selection playing abroad.

However, assistant manager Osama Nabih has stated a further 10 or 11 locally-based players will also be called up.

The foreign-based squad announcement was meant to be made on March 4th, with the domestic based squad-list revealed on the 10th.

However, obliviously there has been a delay, so it remains to be seen when we find out the remainder of the squad.

Of those announced, seven players ply their trade in England, and are four based in Saudi Arabia. Star name’s include Liverpool’s Mo Salah, Mahmoud “Trézéguet” Hassan of Kasimpasa, and Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny.

Despite multiple sources announcing 17 players have been called up, only 16 have been listed.

Forwards:
